São Paulo, April 29, 2019 – The first edition of EmergeLabs Eurofarma is live! It will select up to 16 teams from all over Latin America that seek to take their research projects from the bench to the market. Submissions can be made through the website http://emerge.org.br/ until May 31.

The program has been in place since 2017 and Eurofarma, one of Brazil’s most innovative pharmaceutical companies, with a presence in 20 countries, is supporting the initiative by reinforcing its commitment to the development of the innovation ecosystem. “We believe in the union of science and technology with innovation. Several scientists and researchers work to reach society through their research and, with this program, we are offering the possibility of being the vectors of this transformation,” said Martha Penna, Vice President of Innovation at Eurofarma.

“EmergeLabs Eurofarma is a program developed especially for those who wish to take their research or technology from the laboratory to the market, generating impact and revenue. Our main goal is to provide a deep experience in innovation, entrepreneurship, market, intellectual property, team building, and other specially developed topics,” added Guilherme Rosso, President of Emerge.

The Program – Up to 16 teams will be selected with at least two members and a maximum of five, including at least one scientist or researcher. Students and researchers at the undergraduate, Master’s, Doctoral or Postdoctoral level can participate in the program, as well as entrepreneurs and managers, irrespective of their level of expertise – the potential impact of the team and the project is what counts instead.

The program is divided into the selection process (registration, evaluation, and interviews), five face-to-face stages, mentoring, and follow-up. The face-to-face meetings will be held at the School of Economics, Administration and Accounting (FEA) of the University of São Paulo (USP).

The projects will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Impact: Projects that can significantly change people’s lives and work or the functioning of organizations, or projects with a global impact, as opposed to an impact just on a research area;

  • Creativity: The way in which applicants face problems and develop real solutions;

  • Audacity: Audacious people with a history of deeds, with wins and losses, and a continuous spirit of perseverance;

  • Current: Focus on what they are doing today, not on the projects they conducted in the past;

  • Communication: Clear ideas to be communicated and explained successfully in order to reach funders, consumers and the general public.

The announcement of the selected teams will take place on June 13. The results of each stage and the calls for subsequent steps will be communicated by email. On some occasions, as needed, telephone contacts will be made.

“We wish to broaden the relationship with the scientific and academic community, establishing new milestones for society. We believe in the potential and capacity of Latin American researchers and are willing to support the development of science in the region,” concluded Martha Penna.
